About Us

We are a structural engineering consultancy company operating from an open plan office that helps facilitate a studio environment. We specialise in providing bespoke and creative structural design solutions to fulfil the client's brief to private residential customers, commercial developers and charities.

Our Engineers are trained to work from first principles enabling them to apply their knowledge and understanding of structures to a variety of situations. As we undertake a wide variety of projects, we have gained a rich engineering experience.

We understand that of all of the specifications various consultants provide, the scheme's engineering is not necessarily the primary consideration to shape a project brief. We therefore work as a team with other professionals and often design bespoke structures that fulfil the project constraints taken from the brief. This allows us to design and implement a wide range of structural solutions, both in terms of structural systems and materials to suit particular scheme requirements. This approach enables us to continually improve, extend and develop our knowledge of engineering technology.

Developing sustainable, resilient buildings for the 21st century requires a holistic look at materials and systems. At Now First, we work with architects, developers, contractors and owners to evaluate and design structures and building enclosures that leverage the best technologies and materials available. Our team of experts work on projects of every size, from structural engineering new build tower blocks to providing advice for the renovation of a single family dwelling.

Buildings are complex systems that require the experience and expertise of a coordinated team. Through building lasting relationships with contractors, architects and owners, we develop collective knowledge. Together, we create lasting, innovative, and elegant built environments.

Our History

Now First Structural Engineers was established by John Cox, the director, after he spent time working for a number of highly respected, award winning Architects and Engineering firms based in London.

In professional practice we have worked on a wide range of projects as structural engineers, designers and project managers.

This experience has led to a deep understanding of all aspects of the UK construction industry, beyond structural engineering including contract law, legislative frameworks and cost control. We are happy to provide advice beyond that of a standard structural engineering practice, offering advice on building procurement, selection of materials and forms of construction.

We enjoy operating as part of a design team, building good working relationships with Clients, Architects and Contractors or alone as the Client's Agent.
